Clashes in Democratic Republic of the Congo's North Kivu province continues to force people to flee. The violence in the eastern province has also hampered efforts to bring aid to the most needy, with some roads and entire villages cut off by fighting. The displaced are in need of shelter and UNHCR is now constructing new camps.

Since early 2001, renowned American actress Angelina Jolie has traveled the world as a Goodwill Ambassador to UNHCR, The UN Refugee Agency. On World Refugee Day, she pays tribute to the forcibly uprooted and to the people who protect them.
Each day the conflict in Sri Lanka forces more families to flee their homes. More than 300,000 people have been displaced in the last year alone. UNHCR is attempting to help the newly displaced and those who have been uprooted for years.
