My friend Tom works at the Firestone plant in Bloomington, IL. The History Channel did a segment about the enormous mining equipment tires he helps build. Pretty cool stuff.
We interrupt tonight's presentation to bring you the following special report! It doesn't need any more introduction than that. You'll probably have to watch this one twice... once for the dialogue and again to read the news ticker at the bottom of the screen.

"The Great American Road" jingle! Full-sing, tailored just for the Regal. In my mind, 1987 is when a lot of GM cars started to look more stylized and contemporary and less boxy, and this is a good example. My parents had both an '86 and an '87 Olds and they were very different from each other.
This jingle rocks out compared to all the other junk I've posted. This is a generic spot for Pontiac's whole 1987 auto line with the "we build excitement" jingle.
One of many commercials featuring the California Raisins, a group of motown-singing anthropomorphized raisins made out of clay Peter-Gabriel style. If I looked down and saw my raisins walking out of the box and dancing around, I don't think I'd ever eat another one. From 1987.
I stumbled onto this spot from at least 10 years ago (more likely 11 or 12) for the now-defunct Sportschannel, which was a regional midwest cable sports channel as I recall. Is that the one that turned into Fox Sports Midwest? Anyway the spot stars Rachel Dratch WELL before she was "discovered" for her roles in SNL and feature films. She was likely in Second City at the time.
Radio Shack's Tandy computer division really tried to make a run at the PC market back in the late 80's and early 90's. Now you look at it and it's just laughable.
The 80's were home to cheesy full-sing jingles, with a cheesy storyline to go along with them. This is the very recognizable "We love to fly and it shows" jingle from 1987.
After 2 years, Jon's '79 CJ-5 finally moves under its own power. Upgrades too numerous to mention... mainly a new cage and the rear axle has been moved back using springs designed for a Cherokee.
Each year I do a wrap-up video for the Mid-Illini Jeep Club. This is a bonus feature from the 2006 DVD. That's my Jeep with the club feet at the beginning... a rock bent my tie rod into a V.
I love ABC's old voiceover guy from the 70's and 80's. He had quite an unusual way of reading copy. This promo/teaser aired right before the movie started.
