STS-115 Space Shuttle Atlantis blasts off from Kennedy Space Center Florida. Near the end of the clip you can see the vapor cloud as the shuttle breaks the sound barrier. This was shot by a good friend of mine, he was kind enough to get me that close to the pad, then run the camera as I watched.

14/10/1947, Captain Charles "Chuck" Yeager becomes the first person to fly faster than sound. Yeager breaks the sound barrier in the Bell X-1 "Glamorous Glennis", named after his wife. He was able to reach 670-mph or Mach 1.015 at Muroc Dry Lake, California.
