A demonstration of recording on a tinfoil phonograph, as invented by Edison in 1877. The phonograph seen here is an exact replica of an all-brass exhibition machine as made by Bergmann in late 1878. This replica was built by the late Bill Ptacek. It's a massive phonograph, weighing 125 pounds.

A la vez que los discos como soporte del sonido grabado existía el cilindro.
El disco permitía una tirada indefinida de copias.
En el caso del cilindro solo se podía hacer una sola copia de la toma de sonido.
Con lo cual para hacer duplicados había que grabar con varias maquinas a la vez en la misma toma.
